I first photographed a wedding at Clearwell Castle way back in the summer of 2006. Fast forward to 2011 and I was back for a winter wedding at Clearwell Castle, which in my opinion is this venues trump card. Why? Well it’s set up so well for weddings, but especially great if the weather is inclement. The large rooms have beautiful big windows flooding the place with light and you have plenty of room to move around inside, so if the grounds are out of action guests don’t feel cooped up.
Stuart and Lauren first contacted me about wedding photography as I’d photographed Stuart’s brothers wedding back in 2008, and in their words “the photos were amazing and I was a pleasure to have around”. It’s lovely to have clients that come from recommendations, they usually know how I work at weddings and trust me to produce great results, so simply get on with enjoying their day.
Despite this being a winter wedding the weather was on top form. For late January it was surprisingly warm, with bright skies but the inevitable slight chill in the air later in the day. One thing I would suggest for anyone having a winter wedding at Clearwell Castle, or any other venues for that matter, make sure you leave time in the day for photos, so have you wedding ceremony early enough to take advantage of the light before it fades around 4pm.
Stuart and Lauren used the rooms at Clearwell to prepare fin the morning then slipped downstairs for the civil ceremony followed by the drinks reception and wedding breakfast – what could be simpler. Here are a short selection of the photos from their day.
The bridal suite at Clearwell Castle
Possibly one of my favourite photos from the day – well, during bridal preps anyhow. The blusher brush gets ’em every time!
Check out the girl on the right – no glass but still joining in – classic.
I’ve not seen such a long stemmed wedding bouquet before….pretty cool.
What kinda cool camera has that kid got?
It’s just a fab pic with ‘stuff going on’. Which is exactly what happens at weddings.
