Mike & Kiki’s wedding was held at Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire, on one of the best summer days we’ve had in a while. Wedding photographers rarely want blazing sun, preferring the perfect balance of bright yet overcast weather – boo!
Being a recommended wedding photographer at Berkeley Castle means I usually shoot a few weddings there each year…..and thus get to know how the light falls across the castle throughout the seasons and at different times of the day. This really helps when getting some beautiful wedding portraits, as we can be fairly swift knowing some of the key spots in the gardens that work well.
Anyhow, enough photographer waffle, let’s get back on course with Mike & Kiki’s wedding. It all started at the nearby Tortworth Court where Kiki & her bridesmaids were beautifying. Wedding guests were also staying here and had a coach laid on to take them the short journey to Berkeley Castle….well Berkeley Church to be precise. Logistically I think this works really well, an ideal set-up on your wedding day, not only for the bride & groom, but also wedding guests. The fact the church is right on the doorstep of Berkeley Castle is an added bonus, just a few yards from A-B.
Like many of my clients, Mike & Kiki live in London, but chose to get married in Gloucestershire as Kiki apparenlty loves castles….and we do have a few here! It was very much the fairytale wedding too, perfect weather, a beautiful dress, fab wedding guests, simply an all round great day.
So here is a small selection of their wedding photos….I hope you enjoy.
Now don’t move or you’ll have an eye lash glued to your eye lid….and no one wants that!
“Umm this hairstyle please. Yes, make me look like her. Most definitely don’t make me look like my bridesmaid (below), she’s got awful hair!” :-)
“Ummm, I like it with the fringe slightly up at the front”
For those wishing to know Kiki’s wedding dress had eight layers of sheer fabric – wow…I know, amazing huh.
I think someones enjoying all the attention? Am I right Kiki?
Inside Berkeley Church. You’ll see this pool of light on a few occasions in my photos. I became slightly obsessed with it.
Was the groom nervous – nahh. Was the best man sweating about his speech later – yeah!
If you’ve been keeping up on facebook then you may have already seen this photo (good on you, go to top of the class). If you haven’t been keeping up on FB, (shame on you) perhaps it’s time to get and ‘like’ my page now – or in a few minutes once you’ve finished reading this post hey.
Kiki doesn’t in fact have feet, she was just carried into the wedding ceremony by her bridesmaids.
The entrance to Berkeley Church and the fantastic vicar Richard, who is kind enough to allow discrete photography during the wedding ceremony.
“Okay, set me down here girls….I think I’m gonna walk the rest of the way…… all by myself!”
I love this photo. It’s kinda spoilt by my logo placement a bit (ohh well, at least you know this photo is by Matt Davis Photography ;-)
Anyhow, it’s the time Kiki has arrived and guests are getting that first look as she enters the church. Meanwhile standing all lonesome at the front of the church is Mike, waiting for the big arrival.
Yeah, I’ve wanted to get a shot like this for a while now. Sometime it just falls into your hands – sweet. Well done for leaving a BIG gap between the bridesmaid and the bride. (More on that another day).
It’s refreshing to see people actually watching the bride arrive rather than taking photos. I love seeing the expressions on their faces as Kiki walks past.
Very attentive bridesmaids A+
Ahh that pool of light again. I make that 2 photos so far.
I do like a comedy best man……always a crowd pleaser when they stall finding the rings.
If that’s not the face of a contented bride I don’t know what is?
Love the best mans face in this photo. Sweet.
Is this a photo showing a moment between the bride and groom – yeah. BUT it’s also a photo showing the bridesmaids looking on. I love photographing other people enjoying a moment, not just the moment itself.
Ohh look, I’m back to the pool of light again. This time a third angle – get me. Same girl though, but don’t be alarmed, it does move onto the next person on the pew in front shortly……
….see, how good is that, I even got a smile this time. Better still, this lady is VIP. She later did a reading which means I go to top of the class as numero uno photographer :-) (okay, back to the real world)
Can you spot yourself – go on…have a good look. Hope you weren’t picking your nose!
Clearly there was more than one wedding photographer at Berkeley Castle this weekend.
Okay…..this is a call out to the lovely lady in the blue spotty dress. I know I said I’d give you my business card – well, I forgot. (Was kinda busy shooting a wedding you see) So instead, contact me for a chat about your wedding day, I’d love to hear from you.
Inside Berkeley Castle set for the wedding breakfast.
Ahh candle arbors – They look great don’t they?
Todays table favours were ‘ickle pots of Strawberry Jam. Well I presume Strawberry, but perhaps some were other flavours, who knows? Leave a comment below if you picked up a different flavour!
Ahh wedding gruop shots. You’d think a professional wedding photographer was stood behind you trying to take the photos wouldn’t you!? ;-)
Some fancy royal bunting was up at the castle today.
Okay, this is slightly out of order, but I felt it necessary to take a photo of the cake ASAP, incase of the cake incident that occurred a few weeks back (#cakefallsoverandsplatsonfloor). We will however be back to the cake shortly.
It’s at this point I start to curse the candle arbors for being in the way of peoples faces – damn you!
Pee-poo, got him through the gap between them though – phew!
Ahh there we go, that’s the angle, underneath the candle arbors. Anyone tall at this wedding clearly isn’t gonna get photographed.
You may ask, but unless you were there, or grew up with Mike I’m thinking it may be lost on you. To explain briefly though – that outfit is a crocodile.
So, back to the wedding cake. Which was an amazing looking specimen. Apparently typically Chinese…being a light sponge cake with fresh fruit – looked good actually.
It was at this point I was starting to get concerned.
Can I put this whole sequence of photos in? They do make me smile. Hamster cheeks and all that!
Shy and reserved.
Due to timings first dance was going to be a little later than planned so Kiki and Mike performed for me in this beautiful evening light, setting across Berkeley Castle.
Is this possibly one of my favourite photos? I’m kinda liking it – anyone else?
Okay Kiki, give me a demure pose, let’s work this golden glow! Scratch that, just goof around after a few glasses of bubbly – that’s perfect.
It’s nice to finally see summer here in the UK, and better still when the light falls perfectly across Berkeley Castle during wedding portraits with the bride and groom.
If you are having a wedding at Berkeley Castle and looking for a photographer please contact me. I am a recommended supplier here and have several examples of wedding photography at Berkeley Castle on my website and sample albums to view at the castle itself.
