I typically have a few Barnsley House weddings each year, and it’s always a wedding venue I look forward to shooting at. It’s such a fantastic spot, a Cotswold countryside retreat for the Londoners to escape to…..at least that’s the impression I have. Well, welcome to Gloucestershire, and it’s beautiful rolling countryside, chocolate box villages and for this weekend anyway, fine weather.
Picking the perfect day of the week to get married is an art form in itself, one clearly Marc and Regula were very good at. It had rained most days on the run up, and also after the Saturday in question, but I guess that’s autumn for you. Barnsley House does have a fine selection of wellies to choose from though, incase you left the big smoke packed only with you’re Manolo Blahniks!
Many couples choosing to get married at Barnsley House make a weekend break of it, with guests staying on site in the beautiful boutique hotel too. A wedding venue with a Spa, Cinema, stunning gardens, fine dining and options for countryside activities on your doorstep is certainly a wedding worth attending!
Anyhow, here are a few of my favourite photos from Mac & Regula’s Barnsley House wedding.
The feeling of “you’ve arrived” when you pull up to Barnsley House…. always makes you feel welcome.
The stunning gardens wrap around Barnsley House and make a beautiful secluded spot for your drinks reception…..clearly that’s later on the photos hey!
The aforementioned ‘wellies’. Take your pic.
Regula who is Swiss, had guests from around the globe at her wedding. So I naturally thought,(when peeping over the shoulder of Regula’s bridesmaid “I can’t read that hand writing, perhaps it’s in a foreign language” Alas no, just remarkably messy….no wonder se was practicing her reading :-)
Yep, that’s the wedding dress….with may I add A LOT of packaging.
The boys were taking it easy with a spot of lunch before heading off to the church.
“Hello reception, we have a gigantic dragonfly in our room….can you send someone in to remove it, we’re all too scared to touch it”
Not a phrase I hear very often at weddings.
Dragonfly incident over and done with, into the wedding dress, shoes on and off to the church.
St Mary’s Church in Barnsley, Gloucestershire.
How cool is this wedding bouquet. It’s Sweet Pea flowers should you wish to know., and according to Regular very much out of season and therefore very much more expensive that’d you’d hope! Ce la vie…..looks lovely though.
It’s a first. I’ve never before had a guest bring a dog to a wedding. Looks like she’s gonna bite you I reckon!
At this point it’s worth pointing out the Vicar at Barnsley Church only allows photography from the back of the church. A little limited on variety of images therefore, but still manageable – phew!
Barnsley Church & Barnsley House work so well together as a wedding day partnership. Walking to a fro from the venues is just perfect, especially with the fab weather we had.
It’s Pimms O’Clock.
One place, 4 different photos. Sometimes I just can’t decide. Is it a) the lovely wedding photo with a reflection reflection in the pond….
….or b) a straight forward “rawww” kinda shot?
…..maybe c) where I’ve included a little more of Barnsley House gardens….
….or finally d) a beautiful photo of Regula?
Doorway light – you gotta love it….especially when it’s charing like this one at Barnsley House.
With the evening chill upon us, guest crept inside prior to dinner for a drink in the bar.
I love the understated way this table plan is hung in the foliage alongside the entrance door to the main dining room.
Inside Barnsley House, set for some fine dining.
