Weddings at Kingscote Barn – Andrew & Frances

I photograph quite a few weddings at Kingscote Barn, but being on my doorstep in Gloucestershire it’s always a trip I enjoy.  Not only are the staff always very welcoming but couples who get married at Kingscote Barn tend to be good fun, easy going, and have a wedding day that goes with a bang.  Andrew & Frances were no exception, along with a host of friends, family & special guest lil’ sis Sarah all the way from Oz!

They booked me after meeting at the Kingscote Barn wedding fair last year (a beautifully sunny day), and have since become blog addicts. Okay, maybe Andrew isn’t quite as prolific, but Frances and her mum wait eagerly on a weekly basis for my latest wedding news!  Well, here’s the big one, finally it’s time to showcase their day, but clearly all things aren’t even with weddings at Kingscote Barn, as despite the sunshine last March, this time around was damp to say the least!  Was it the Scottish influence or Andrew’s ‘luck’ that he saves up for special days?  Either way, it really was a great day, albeit with little opportunities to enjoy the outside space that Kingscote Barn has to offer.

Kingscote Barn

At this point in the day (when I first arrived) it was only just starting to rain….there was hope, but that didn’t last long!  The grey sky over Kingscote Barn was ominous.

All the best weddings start with a Charleston dance routine :-)

Dad did look good, clearly the girls thought so too.

“umm yes, I think it needs a little extra coiffeur’ing here, get Chris to do his magic”

Hang about, who’s meant to be doing the photography here Chris?  I suggest you stick to hair styles, and leave the snaps to me.

“Let me show you how to open champagne”  What could be simpler.

It’s all about pulling the right face……

Worry not Catherine isn’t going to waste the spillage.  However………

(Slight aside to the blog post…..but Catherine – are those your real eye lashes? OMG if so!?)

“Do I wear the spanx, do I not wear the spanx?”  A many wedding day decision!

Single shoulder strap wedding dressGreen bridesmaid dresses in unique individual designssingle strap wedding dress

At this opportunity I’d like to point out to future brides reading this, my excellent reasoning behind having a single strap wedding dress (from an onlookers POV you understand!).

It’s like s a strapless wedding dress, but means you don’t spend all day worrying about it falling down. This not only pleases you, but means I have to delete far less photos where I caught you ‘mid lift’ which I’m afraid is a fail in the photography dept.

So, take back the one you’ve got and get down with the program for 2013 – it’s one shoulder wedding dresses from now on please.

Whilst mums back was turned it all started to go Pete Tong in the next bedroom.

Yikes, it’s all got a little emotional….

….and I soon learnt that should you need to stop yourself ‘welling up’ holding your nose is the solution.

It’s also very important not to look at someone crying, so turn your back on them….or put your hand up so you can’t see them :-)

” don’t come in this room unless you pinch your nose, it’s a no crying zone.”

Lastly, hold your hands out to the side, this helps settle any emotion and regain normality ;-)

Phew…..all fine again, I think.

It may be raining out, but that certainly didn’t dampen Frances’ spirit.

Wet weddings at Kingscote Barn

Outside was far too wet for wedding photos, so we used the balcony area at Kingscote Barn for a couple of portraits instead.

I’m thinking this may have been a moment of ‘stepping on the dress’.

Having rained all day, the brief dry spell around dusk proved an opportune moment to sneak Andrew & Frances out between dinner courses for a quick photo opportunity.  It’s never easy in the wet, when it’s cold and the light dismal, but a little creativity helps this one along in leau of a blue sky and some greenery!

Here you go ‘chief Bridesmaid’ a little something to confirm your status :-)

With the photos concluded, it was on to First Dance and little did I know they’d choreographed a wee number – good on ’em, makes for much better photos.

A or B? In fact there are 6 other choices in the full set of wedding photos, sometimes I really do struggle to decide.

With first dance complete the mayhem that is a Scottish ceilidh began.  Despite many weddings at Kingscote Barn, I’ve never covered a ceilidh here before.  It was a wee bit small on space, but that certainly didn’t stop the guests having a blast!
