What a unique wedding at Dumbleton Hall this was! Here are a small selection of Dumbleton Hall winter wedding photos from Simon and Liz’s snow capped wedding in December 2010.
To say this wedding was different is an understatement. I’m sure many wedding couples getting married in winter have a slight glimmer of hope that their wedding will be a white wedding. Well, this was it!
I’ve photographed many weddings at Dumbleton Hall over the past few years, mostly in the heat of summer, so to turn up in my snowboarding jacket was quite strange. Having decided I was unlikely to want to venture outside on too many occasions I firstly had a trudge around in the snow to take some unique photos of Dumbleton Hall like it had never been seen before (at least not by me anyhow!) In fact when I got home from the wedding I compared these Dumbleton Hall winter wedding photos to those taken earlier in the year…..and wow, what a difference! A totally unique look, one that I doubt will not happen again for some time.
Anyhow, onto the wedding itself, which couldn’t have been scripted any better if they tried. WIth a snowy winter theme (their actual wedding theme, not just the weather), black tie and black & white colour scheme, this day was set to be a blinder!
Liz is a fantastic bride, always cheerful, a beautiful smile, very accommodating and totally relaxed. Starting the day with all the girls (7 or so bridesmaids) was great fun, everyone excited about the wedding, and thankful to have arrived safely in the deep snow!
Did I mention Liz’s great smile….well, there you go!
Meanwhile the boys enjoyed a cool beer.
Simon is a cool relaxed kinda guy, just taking it all in his stride.
That great smile again.
I love this real moment (it’s not staged!) as they have a quick chance to chat before signing the wedding register.
Including the older generations in wedding photos is a must for me. I love to see Grans & Granddads getting in on the action.
I recently had a few words sent to me by Liz, and this photo was used as their wedding thank you card. Here’s what she said about it:
“This was the photo we chose to use for our thank you card. When we braved the outside we were faced with such a magical and special setting. I almost can’t quite believe how it was when I think back. Matt used a long lens on the camera for some of the outside shots which meant he was actually quite far away from us. So in this photo, although it looks as if he is close, in fact, we set off trudging in the snow together and weren’t aware of Matt taking this photo at all. The photo is natural, romantic and so ‘perfect’, that friends who didn’t know about the remarkable weather have even asked if the setting was ‘real’!”
If only there were no other footprints.
A drink to warm up – that was a welcome call! Certainly what Liz needed, to quote her:
“This is one of our favourite photos from the day. After being outside in sub-zero temperatures, I started to lose feeling in my feet and hands. Our friend came out to offer ‘support’ with a whisky to warm us up! I love the composition of the shot showing the direction of our gaze at a surprise we weren’t expecting! “
A brief wedding speech was held in the main entrance hall before eating dinner. More then followed later.
Whist wedding guests were eating I nipped back out into the cold (and believe me it was very cold this time!) to get an alternative winter wedding photo of Dumbleton Hall.
Simon and Liz had a magician entertain guests after dinner.
Liz sums this photo up so well:
“This photo made us laugh. Matt stood behind the bar- showing two of our friends enjoying ‘cheeky’ shots. It’s natural, fun and again, another moment that as bride and groom we were unaware of!”
Liz’s thoughts on this photo:
“One of the final photos Matt took of us during the evening. A packed dance floor, we are unaware of the camera- it is natural and elegant and captures the romance of the day with the couples dancing in the background. I adore black and white photography, and this photo with its subtle use of lighting and black and white colour, is timeless.”
