Last weekend saw me photograph a same sex wedding at Friars Court in Oxfordshire. It was Pete & Nick’s turn to tie the knot and they chose the splendid setting of Friars Court gardens to have their outdoor wedding ceremony. This venue is perfectly suited to outdoor wedding ceremonies (which are becoming ever more popular) and for Pete & Nick who wanted a relaxed feel to the day this certainly helps take away some of the tension that you’d otherwise associate with a more formal wedding. Pete & Nick also meet and mingled with guests as they arrived prior to the ceremony for coffee and cake…..what could be nicer eh?
The day itself was perfect in every way. Saturday was the one day of the weekend where it didn’t pour down with rain, which was pretty handy seeing as the wedding was geared up for outdoors, both at Friars Court and then at Pete & Nicks home later for the drinks reception and wedding breakfast. Speaking with Jeffrey of Silver Pear Weddings (who helps arrange and plan the day itself) we both agreed there was a definite sense of occasion for this wedding. Photographing some of the first few gay marriages that are now taking place in the UK does make you realise how long it’s been for this law to pass and how friends and family of the couple also appreciated this.
After the ceremony Pete & Nick spent a short while with me around the grounds of Friars Court to get some couple wedding photos, before heading off 20mins away back to their home for the drinks reception. It really was a simple day in it’s sense of ease, and certainly how Pete & Nick imagined it. Here are a few photos from the day to give you a sense of the occasion.
That moment the photographer mentions you may have a dusty bum from sitting on the stone bench!
If you are having a wedding at Friars Court drop me a line, I’d love to hear from you and hopefully have the chance to photograph your wedding day too.
